1992

1.Johnson & Wales University

The Florida Campus, established in 1992, is located in the heart of North Miami, between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. With South Beach to the south and the Ft. Lauderdale strip to the north, it's easy to find something to do anytime.

Majestic palms line the Florida Campus where over 2,100 students are enrolled in the College of Business, the College of Culinary Arts, and The Hospitality College. Yet, it's still small enough that faculty and administrators remember your name. Florida was chosen the campus to host the first golf major as a concentration in the Sports/Entertainment/Event Management program. In its first year, the golf team won the Southeastern Regional Championships, placed in the top 10 in the National Championships (NAIA), and has two All American players.

2. North Miami Police

The second death of a North Miami police officer occurred on January 3, 1992, just six months into Chief Each’s administration. Detective Bauer was shot and killed in the line of duty during a bank robbery. Following his death, the voters of North Miami approved a $5 million special bond issue to build a new police headquarters building. The new building would be named the Sergeant Steven E. Bauer Police Building in his memory and would be dedicated to all future fallen officers, killed in the line of duty.
